"This hidden gem-turned-retreat amid the trees living big thanks to clever uses of space and simple finishes that celebrate its surroundings."
Discovering an abandoned shed nestled within 18 acres of pristine woodland in Connecticut proved to be an extraordinary stroke of fortune for our interior design and architecture team. Left untouched for over a decade, the structure awaited a transformation that would breathe new life into its weathered bones. With a vision for rejuvenation, our team embarked on a journey to reimagine this forgotten space. Retaining the shed's original footprint, our interior design and architecture experts embarked on a comprehensive overhaul, infusing it with modern sensibilities while honoring its rustic origins. A masterstroke was the introduction of a height-enhancing dormer in the bathroom, complemented by a striking glass wall at the cabin's entrance. Our objective was clear: to forge a captivating juxtaposition between the untamed wilderness outside and the serene minimalism within. Central to our design philosophy was the integration of natural materials sourced directly from the surrounding landscape, including the venerable Douglas fir. By artfully incorporating these raw elements in a disciplined, minimalist manner, we accentuated the inherent drama of the space. Every choice, from the utilization of light wood in the cleverly transformed upstairs loft to the lofted ceiling reminiscent of a cozy tent, was meticulously curated to evoke a sense of harmony and tranquility. Embracing the ethos of "less is more," our team deployed premium materials sparingly throughout the cabin, leveraging them to punctuate the design with moments of contrast and refinement. The result is a harmonious fusion of rustic charm and contemporary elegance, where every detail contributes to a narrative of renewal and transformation in interior design and architecture in Connecticut.
